Brain stimulation and exercise for depression after stroke

This study tests whether combining brain stimulation with aerobic exercise can help treat depression and improve walking in people who have had a stroke at least a year ago. If you have ongoing depressive symptoms and some leg weakness from your stroke, this treatment may help you feel better and walk more easily.

Who can take part

  • You must be older than 21 years.
  • Your stroke must have happened at least 12 months ago.
  • You need to have some depression symptoms, confirmed by a doctor's evaluation.
  • You must have some leg weakness or difficulty moving your leg from the stroke, but still be able to walk without a walking aid or leg brace.
  • You should be on a stable dose of antidepressants (if you take any) for at least 4 weeks, or not take them at all.
  • You must be physically able to complete an exercise test and get cleared by the study doctor.
