  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You have been diagnosed with Graves' disease (overactive thyroid).
  • Your doctor has recommended removing your entire thyroid gland (total thyroidectomy).
  • You have not had thyroid surgery before.
  • You have not had radiation to your neck area.
  • You do not have a known thyroid cancer diagnosis before surgery.
