Who can take part

  • You have hepatitis B from a family where at least two generations have had the virus, and someone in your family has had cirrhosis or liver cancer.
  • You have had hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) in your blood for more than 6 months.
  • You are currently taking or have taken nucleoside analogue pills for hepatitis B, or you have compensated cirrhosis due to hepatitis B.
  • If you are a woman able to have children, you must have a negative pregnancy test before starting the study treatment.
  • You must not have any medical reason that would make interferon treatment unsafe for you.
  • You cannot have liver cancer or other cancers, and your blood counts and liver function must be within certain safe limits.
