Delayed cord clamping and gentle surfactant for premature babies

This study tests whether waiting a bit longer to clamp the umbilical cord, combined with giving a natural lung coating (called surfactant) through a thin tube instead of a breathing tube, helps premature babies breathe better. Who can take part

  • Your baby must be born between 23 weeks and 29 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy.
  • Your baby must be breathing on their own right after birth.
  • Your baby must have been diagnosed with respiratory distress syndrome (breathing trouble after birth).
  • Your baby must not have needed a breathing tube for resuscitation or other reasons shortly after birth.
  • Your baby must not have any major birth defects or severe complications like bleeding, air leaks, or early infection.
