Who can take part

  • You had a kidney transplant at UCSF in the last 6 months
  • You can swallow capsules by mouth
  • Your kidney function (GFR) is above a certain level (more than 30)
  • You have taken TMP-SMX without stopping for the first 6 months after your transplant
  • You are at high risk for UTIs, for example due to diabetes, a history of UTIs, bladder issues, or certain kidney conditions
