Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 70 years old
  • This is your first kidney transplant
  • Your kidney function has stabilized with creatinine clearance greater than 30 mL/min (a measure of how well your new kidney is working)
  • You do not have HIV infection
  • You are not allergic to TMP-SMX (an antibiotic also called Bactrim or Septra)
  • You can attend regular follow-up visits and take medication as instructed
