Kidney artery stenting for difficult-to-control high blood pressure
Treatments studied
Part of Heart & circulation, Kidney & urinary clinical trials.
This trial tests whether placing a small metal tube (stent) in a narrowed kidney artery—guided by a pressure measurement called fractional flow reserve—helps lower blood pressure better than a placebo (no stent). It is for people whose blood pressure stays high despite taking multiple medicines.

Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You have high blood pressure that is not well controlled even with two or more blood pressure medicines.
- You are scheduled for an angiogram (a special X-ray) to check the blood vessels in your kidneys.
- The narrowing in your kidney artery is about 70% to 99% and the vessel is at least 4 mm wide.
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and you do not have a recent history of stroke, heart attack, or major surgery.
- You have not had a kidney transplant or previous kidney artery stenting or bypass surgery.

This trial compares placing a tiny mesh tube (stent) to open the narrowed kidney artery versus continuing blood pressure medicines alone. It is for people whose high blood pressure is hard to control even with multiple medications and who have a blockage in the kidney artery that can be treated.
This trial studies whether placing a small stent in a severely narrowed kidney artery can improve outcomes for people with high-risk, artery-hardening kidney blood-flow problems. It focuses on people whose high blood pressure or kidney function has been getting worse despite multiple medications.
This trial tests a new device that uses ultrasound to treat nerves in the kidney arteries that may be overactive and raising your blood pressure. It's for people whose blood pressure stays high despite taking at least two medications.
This study tests a new device that uses energy to calm kidney nerves, which may help lower blood pressure in people with chronic kidney disease whose blood pressure stays high despite taking multiple medications.
This trial tests whether using a pressure wire to guide treatment of narrowed kidney arteries helps lower blood pressure better than usual care. It may help people with severe high blood pressure caused by kidney artery blockages.
This study compares two types of stents (a small mesh tube) placed in the kidney artery to open up a narrowed vessel. The goal is to see if a stent with a fabric cover works better than a bare metal stent for improving blood flow and controlling blood pressure.
