Who can take part

  • Ages 22 to 70
  • You have long-lasting major depression and have tried many treatments without enough improvement, including ECT
  • Your depression severity is high (MADRS score above 26) at both screening and starting the study
  • You can safely have brain procedure planning and surgery, and you are willing to have brain monitoring/stimulation
  • You must stay on your depression medicines unchanged for 4 weeks before and during the study
  • You can attend multiple visits and also do at-home study tasks; you must speak and read English
