Who can take part

  • You are 50 years or older.
  • You have been newly diagnosed with either ischemic optic neuropathy or giant cell arteritis (GCA).
  • If you have GCA, you must not have any vision changes (like vision loss or double vision) from the GCA.
  • If you have ischemic optic neuropathy, you must have symptoms like a swollen optic nerve, vision loss, or a specific pupil defect.
  • You have not been treated with prednisolone (a steroid) for more than 5 days before joining.
  • You do not have any metal implants (like pacemakers or aneurysm clips) that would make an MRI unsafe.
