Who can take part

  • You have lower back pain from degenerative disc disease that hasn't improved after other treatments.
  • You need surgery on up to four discs between the L1 and S1 vertebrae.
  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are having a lumbar fusion using this natural protein material and a cage device.
  • You have not had previous fusion surgery at the same level being treated (though past surgery on other spine levels is okay).
  • You do not have active cancer, are not on chemotherapy, and do not have an active infection or recent trauma to the surgery area.
