Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 70 years old.
  • At least 1 year has passed since your islet transplant (TPIAT).
  • Your pancreas still makes some insulin (stimulated C-peptide at least 0.6 ng/mL) and you need only a small amount of insulin (≤0.25 units per kg each day) or you have high blood sugar (HbA1c above 6.5%) without insulin.
  • Your diabetes treatment (insulin pump or multiple daily injections) has been stable for at least 8 weeks, with no big changes in dose.
  • You are willing to wear a continuous glucose monitor, record insulin doses, and come to the University of Minnesota for 3 study visits over about 6 months.
  • You have not used any diabetes medications other than insulin in the past 4 weeks.
