Who can take part

  • You are between 40 and 80 years old.
  • You had an ischemic stroke (blocked blood vessel) 6 months to 5 years ago that caused weakness on one side of the body.
  • You have felt unusually tired or low on energy for at least 2 weeks in the past month.
  • You can walk 10 meters with or without a cane or walker.
  • You are generally healthy enough for exercise, with no heart, lung, or metabolic conditions that would make exercise unsafe.

High-Intensity Exercise for Stroke Recovery

This study tests whether a short, high-intensity interval exercise program is safe and practical for people who are recovering from a stroke during inpatient rehabilitation. You will be asked to do short bursts of exercise on a recumbent stepper, with rest periods, while your heart rate and blood pressure are monitored.
