Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 75 years old.
  • You are scheduled to have thyroid surgery that removes part or all of the thyroid gland.
  • Your vocal cords move normally, checked with a scope before surgery.
  • Your surgeon will use nerve monitoring during the operation.
  • You do not have severe nerve damage from other health problems like diabetes or alcohol use.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and you are not taking high doses of vitamin B12 or related drugs.
