Genes linked to low platelets in ITP and lupus

Immune ThrombocytopeniaSystem; Lupus Erythematosus

This trial looks at two genes (IL-1B and IL-33) to understand why platelets become low in people with primary ITP (a bleeding disorder) or SLE (lupus) with low platelets. Researchers will compare these gene activity levels between the two groups and may use the information to tell them apart. It is a small, non-treatment study.

  • Adults age 18 to 60
  • Diagnosed with primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), OR
  • Diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and have low platelets
  • No immunosuppressive drugs in the past 4 weeks
  • No current infections, cancer, or other autoimmune blood problems
