Who can take part

  • You are 65 or older
  • You are having general anesthesia with a breathing tube placed through your mouth
  • You are generally healthy or have only mild health problems (ASA I or II) and your airway is assessed as Mallampati I or II
  • You have no severe heart, lung, brain, liver, or kidney disease
  • You do not have a psychiatric condition or trouble communicating
  • You have not used sedatives or opioids regularly or abused alcohol recently
