Who can take part

  • You must have type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
  • You must have a foot ulcer below your ankle that is between 1 and 20 square centimeters after cleaning and has been there for at least 4 weeks but less than a year.
  • Your ulcer should not have shrunk much (less than 30%) with standard care before starting the study.
  • Your blood flow to your foot must be adequate, confirmed by a test like toe pressure or ankle-brachial index.
  • You cannot have signs of infection, deep tissue or bone exposure, or cancer (unless treated skin cancer).
  • You cannot be on dialysis, pregnant, or using certain wound treatments like growth factors or other placental products.
