Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 65 years old.
  • You are scheduled for a planned (non-emergency) heart surgery that uses a heart-lung machine.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is between 20 and 40.
  • You do not have severe kidney disease (kidney function better than 15 mL/min).
  • You are not allergic to aminophylline or furosemide and have not had an organ transplant.
