Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You must have had an acute ischemic stroke (blocked blood vessel) and be admitted to the hospital within 8 hours of your first symptoms.
  • Your stroke must be caused by a blockage of a large or medium blood vessel in the front part of your brain, and you must have a certain level of disability (NIHSS score greater than 5).
  • Or you must have had a type of bleeding stroke called aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage and be admitted within 36 hours of your symptoms starting.
  • You must not have had a significant disability before this stroke (modified Rankin Scale score of 0 or 1).
  • If you had an ischemic stroke, you must not have bleeding inside the stroke area.
