Who can take part

  • You are scheduled to have a total knee replacement on just one knee (not a second surgery or both knees at once).
  • You do not have allergies to numbing medications or problems with bleeding or blood thinners.
  • You do not have nerve damage, muscle weakness, or a history of severe organ problems (liver, kidney, or heart failure).
  • You have not been using strong pain medicines (opioids) regularly or had substance abuse issues.
  • You are considered healthy, or have mild to moderate health issues that are well managed (ASA class I–III).
