Who can take part
- You are 18 years old or older
- You are scheduled for elective (planned) total knee replacement on one knee only
- You are willing and able to receive spinal anesthesia (numbing medicine injected into your spine)
- You do not have a history of severe allergic reactions to local anesthetics, gelatin, or chlorhexidine (a disinfectant)
- You do not have a bleeding disorder and can safely stop blood-thinning medications if needed
- You do not have an active infection at the injection site or sepsis (blood infection)
