Who can take part

  • You are between 18-30 years old or over 60 years old.
  • You are scheduled for planned (non-emergency) abdominal surgery with general anesthesia.
  • You have not had chemotherapy or strong steroids in the last 2 weeks.
  • You are not pregnant.
  • You do not have a current infection or sepsis.
  • You do not have a history of certain brain or immune system conditions.
