Who can take part
- You are 65 years old or older
- You are scheduled for a planned (not emergency) major surgery that is not on the heart, brain, or blood vessels, and the surgery is expected to last at least 2 hours
- You do not have a history of dementia
- You are not currently confused or delirious before surgery
- You do not have problems with language, vision, or hearing that would make cognitive tests difficult
- You are not in the intensive care unit (ICU) having surgery
