Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You had a stroke caused by a blockage in the basilar artery, confirmed by special imaging (CTA, MRA, or DSA).
  • Your stroke symptoms started (or you were last seen normal) within the past 24 hours.
  • Your stroke symptoms are mild to moderate, with a score of 2 to 9 on the US National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
  • A brain scan shows a relatively large area of damage but not too severe, with a score of 6 or higher on the posterior circulation ASPECTS scale.
  • You had no significant disability before this stroke (able to do daily activities without help).
