- You had a stroke in the back part of your brain within the last 24 hours.
- A scan (CTA, MRA, DSA) shows a blockage in the main artery at the back of your brain (basilar artery) or the branch just before it.
- You have a large area of damage in the back of your brain, seen on CT or MRI.
- You are between 18 and 80 years old.
- Your stroke symptoms are moderate to severe, with a score of 6 or higher on a standard stroke exam.
- Before the stroke, you were able to do all your usual daily activities without help.
