Who can take part
- You must be 18 or older with a leaky mitral valve caused by atrial fibrillation or heart failure with preserved pumping function.
- Your valve leak must be severe (grade 3+ or 4+) as shown on a heart ultrasound.
- Your heart’s lower left chamber must be pumping at least half as well as normal (LVEF 50% or higher).
- You must have a dilated left atrium (enlarged upper heart chamber on ultrasound).
- You must have symptoms like shortness of breath or fatigue despite taking recommended heart medications for at least 2 months.
- You must not have other significant heart valve problems or had prior mitral valve surgery.
