Who can take part

  • You have a confirmed pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lung) with symptoms starting less than 14 days ago.
  • Your right heart shows signs of strain (from an imaging test like CT or ultrasound) and a blood test for troponin is above 45.
  • You are not currently on strong blood thinners, have a low platelet count, or have a bleeding disorder.
  • You are not pregnant, under 18, or unable to give consent.
  • You are not taking nitrate medications (like Imdur) or using a prescription mouthwash daily.
  • You have a life expectancy of at least 4 months and are not expected to stop active care.
