Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 65 years old.
  • You are in generally good or fair health (ASA I to III).
  • You are scheduled for planned (elective) surgery to remove a tumor in the upper part of the brain (supratentorial).
  • You do not have a skin infection where the surgeon will make the cut.
  • You have not had brain surgery before.
  • You are not allergic to the medicines used in the study (opioids or local anesthetics).
  • You have not had recent confusion, memory problems, or trouble staying awake.
  • You are able to communicate and follow instructions.
  • You do not have ongoing pain in the surgical area before surgery.
  • You do not have severe liver or kidney problems.
  • You do not have a very slow heart rate (below 40 bpm) or certain heart rhythm problems.
