Language development in kids with cochlear implants and speech therapy

Severe to Profound Prelingual Hearing Loss

This study looks at how children with cochlear implants develop language and how speech-language therapy can help. It may be a good fit for children who received a cochlear implant between 8 and 24 months old and have had follow-up care for at least two years.

Who can take part

  • Your child has severe or profound hearing loss that started before they learned to speak
  • Your child received a cochlear implant when they were between 8 and 24 months old
  • Your child has been followed up with for at least 24 months after getting the implant
  • Your child does not have progressive hearing loss or severe neurological conditions, and does not have autism or suspected autism
  • You, as a legal guardian, do not object to your child's participation
