If your child drinks sugary beverages often and has certain health risks like being overweight or having high cholesterol, this trial may help find a healthy eating plan that works.

Who can take part

  • Your child is between 11 and 17 years old.
  • Your child has a fatty liver confirmed by an MRI scan showing at least 8% fat.
  • Your child has at least one health risk factor such as being overweight, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, or signs of insulin resistance.
  • Your child's ALT (a liver enzyme) level is 40 or higher.
  • Your child currently drinks 2 or more 8-ounce sugary drinks or fruit juice per week.
  • If your child is on medications like metformin, the dose has been steady for at least 3 months.
  • You and your child agree to the study rules and sign consent forms.
