Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 85 years old
  • You are scheduled for a major abdominal surgery (lasting at least 2 hours, with a hospital stay of 2+ days)
  • You are in generally good health (ASA I to III)
  • You do not have certain ear problems, a pacemaker, or a very slow heart rate
  • You are not taking long-term pain medication or certain psychiatric medicines
