Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are in an intensive care unit (ICU) and on a breathing machine (mechanical ventilation) in controlled or assisted mode
  • You have a central line (a tube in a large vein) that can be used to inject contrast material
  • Your heart and blood pressure are stable enough that your doctor thinks it's safe to participate
  • You can have an elastic belt placed around your chest for the imaging test
  • You do not have a pacemaker or other metal implants in your chest
