- You are between 18 and 80 years old
- You have been diagnosed with ARDS (severe lung failure requiring a breathing tube) within the past 3 days
- Your blood oxygen level is very low (PaO₂/FiO₂ less than 200) despite being on a ventilator
- You are not pregnant, not breastfeeding, and willing to use birth control for the next year
- You do not have severe heart problems, recent heart attack, unstable chest pain, or serious bleeding disorders
- You have not been in another drug trial in the past 3 months
