Who can take part
- You are 18 years old or older
- You need a veno-venous ECMO machine (a heart-lung bypass for the intensive care unit)
- You have an arterial catheter (a tube in your artery for blood draws) and can undergo 4 blood draws during the study
- You are receiving blood thinning medication (unfractionated heparin)
- You are enrolled in a social security or equivalent insurance program
- No end-of-life care decisions have been made yet
