Pacemaker heart rate settings and blood pressure in older adults

This study tests whether a specific pacemaker heart-rate setting helps control blood pressure and improve heart function in adults over 65 with slow heartbeats and high blood pressure. Who can take part

  • You are 65 years of age or older
  • Your resting heart rate is 60 beats per minute or slower, or your average heart rate over 24 hours is 60 or slower
  • You have high blood pressure (systolic reading ≥130 mmHg) or a documented history of hypertension
  • You need a dual-chamber pacemaker implanted and don't have atrial fibrillation or structural heart disease
  • Your heart's pumping function is normal (ejection fraction >50%) and you don't have heart failure
  • You have no recent heart procedures (CABG or PCI) and no severe liver or kidney disease
