Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with a heart or cardiovascular disease and need heart surgery
  • You are between 18 and 79 years old
  • You have not used sleep medications, pain medications, psychiatric medications, or NSAIDs (like ibuprofen) in the past month
  • You have not had major surgery or been put under general anesthesia in the past month
  • You do not have a history of neck infection, neck injury, neck deformity, or prior neck surgery
  • You are willing to receive random assignment to treatment and actively participate in the study
