PEEP levels in ARDS based on lung response

Who can take part

  • You have moderate or severe ARDS, diagnosed within the last day and a half (36 hours).
  • Your blood oxygen level is 200 or less on a standard ventilator test, with at least 5 cmH2O of PEEP.
  • Your blood pressure is stable, with no need for high doses of a medicine called norepinephrine (less than 0.5 mcg/kg/min).
  • No air leaks in your lungs, like a collapsed lung or air in the chest cavity.
  • No problems that prevent placement of a small tube in your esophagus to measure pressure.
