Tethers to prevent spine problems after deformity surgery

Proximal Junctional Kyphosis

This trial tests whether special tethers (flexible support devices) placed during spine surgery can prevent a common problem called proximal junctional kyphosis—unwanted forward bending of the spine above where surgery was done. You would need to be planning major spine fusion surgery for spinal curvature.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older and need spine fusion surgery to correct spinal curvature
  • Your surgery involves at least 4 spine levels and specific positioning (upper anchor between T9–L2, lower anchor between L5 and pelvis)
  • You can sign consent and fill out questionnaires yourself
  • You have health insurance (or are registered with French social security)
  • You do not have a metal allergy, bone metabolism disorder, or BMI over 40
  • You are not pregnant, do not have active infection or recent cancer, and can follow postoperative instructions
