Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 80 years old.
  • You have a diagnosed speech disorder (locked-in syndrome, severe dysarthria, aphasia, or ALS-related speech loss) from stroke, brain injury, ALS, or similar conditions.
  • You can understand and speak Mandarin Chinese.
  • You are willing and able to undergo brain surgery and follow all study visits and instructions.
  • You do not have pacemakers, defibrillators, or other implanted electrical devices (dental implants are okay).
  • You can tolerate surgery and anesthesia, with no severe organ disease, active infections, or recent blood-thinning medications.
