Who can take part

  • You must be between 2 and 44 years old and weigh at least 33 pounds (15 kg).
  • You must have had a blood test showing at least two diabetes-related autoantibodies (or just one called IA-2A) on more than one occasion in the last 6 months.
  • Your blood sugar levels must be normal (tested with a glucose drink test within the last 7 weeks).
  • You cannot have active infections, a history of tuberculosis, or have had a live vaccine in the last 4 weeks.
  • You cannot be pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant during the study.
  • You must not have other autoimmune diseases (except stable thyroid or celiac disease) or be on medications that affect blood sugar.

Study of immune-modulating drugs for new-onset type 1 diabetes
