Who can take part

  • You have a severe brain injury from trauma, lack of oxygen, or another acute cause.
  • Your level of consciousness is low (Glasgow coma scale below 13) when not on strong sedation.
  • There is no other clear reason for your low consciousness, like a metabolic problem or seizures.
  • Pressure inside your skull is normal or believed to be normal by a doctor.
  • It is safe for you to be moved to an MRI machine for about 45 minutes.
  • You do not have active seizures, are not on full blood thinners, and do not have incompatible implants.
