Who can take part
- Diagnosed with a disorder of consciousness (like coma or vegetative state) by a specialized exam (CRS-R).
- Injury happened more than 28 days ago.
- Medications for mood or behavior must be stable for 4 weeks before starting, and will stay stable during the study.
- A family member or legal representative can give permission for the patient to join.
- No other major brain conditions (like stroke or dementia) before the injury.
- No metal implants or devices that would make MRI unsafe.
- No continuous shaking or moving that would interfere with imaging.
- Not currently in another clinical trial.
- Not on a breathing machine (ventilator).
- No skull surgery that removed a bone flap or a plastic patch over the left side of the head.
