Who can take part

  • You are over 18 years old.
  • A CT scan shows a fresh, large brain bleed near the outer surface of the brain.
  • The bleed volume is between 30 and 80 cubic centimeters (roughly the size of a golf ball to a tennis ball).
  • Your level of consciousness (GCS score) is between 5 and 14, and your stroke symptoms are moderate to severe (NIHSS over 5).
  • Surgery can be safely done within 16 hours of when symptoms started.
  • You do not have another cause for the bleed (like a tumor or abnormal blood vessel), severe disability before this bleed, or a life expectancy less than 6 months.
