Brain During Surgery: Thinking and Medication Study

This study tests whether giving a drug that affects brain chemistry during brain surgery can improve thinking and attention for people with essential tremor or epilepsy. If you qualify, you might receive the drug or a placebo during your electrode placement surgery to see how it affects your cognition.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 70 years old and generally healthy aside from essential tremor or epilepsy.
  • You are scheduled to have brain surgery that involves placing electrodes deep inside the brain.
  • You have not taken blood thinners (such as warfarin or apixaban) within the past week.
  • You do not have certain medical conditions, such as moderate to severe liver or kidney problems, untreated narrow-angle glaucoma, bladder blockage, or a history of allergic reaction to Cobenfy or trospium chloride.
  • You are not taking certain medications, including specific antidepressants, blood thinners, allergy meds, or bladder control drugs.
