Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are currently staying in the intensive care unit (ICU).
  • You have a special heart monitor already in place that uses temperature changes to measure blood flow (called transpulmonary thermodilution).
  • Your doctor plans to give you extra fluids through an IV or adjust a medication called norepinephrine (used to raise blood pressure) to help your heart.
  • You are not pregnant.
  • Your family (or you) agree to join the study, and a study doctor is available.
