Nerve block for leg pain after heart bypass surgery

Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for heart bypass surgery (CABG) that will take a vein from your leg, but not any other heart surgery.
  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You can understand and sign a consent form.
  • Your physical health status is rated as I to IV by the anesthesiologist.
  • You do not have an infection, allergy to numbing medicines, or long-term pain that requires daily pain pills (except Tylenol).
  • You do not have nerve damage in your leg, and you are not in two other research studies at Montreal Heart Institute.
  • Your surgeon will be taking the leg vein with an open cut, not with a camera.
