Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 60 years old.
  • You have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder and are currently having a major depressive episode.
  • Your doctor has recommended ECT (electroconvulsive therapy, sometimes called shock therapy) for your depression.
  • You have not had ECT or TMS (a brain stimulation treatment) in the past month.
  • You do not have a history of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, certain neurological conditions, or recent heart or brain problems.
  • You are willing to participate and provide written consent.
