  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
  • You do not have type 2 diabetes.
  • You are not currently taking steroid medications (like prednisone).
  • You do not drink alcohol heavily or for a long time.
  • You have not been diagnosed with other liver diseases (like viral hepatitis or autoimmune liver disease) or serious liver conditions like cirrhosis or liver cancer.
