Who can take part

  • Newborns who had signs of low oxygen at birth (APGAR score below 8 at 5 minutes)
  • For babies born at another hospital, admitted within the last 24 hours with signs of oxygen loss during birth
  • Must be born at or after 35 weeks of pregnancy
  • Must not have received therapeutic hypothermia (a cooling treatment)
  • Parents must agree to allow their baby to participate
  • No known birth defects or genetic conditions
