Who can take part

  • Your baby must be born at 36 weeks or later (full-term).
  • Your baby must weigh at least 1800 grams (about 4 pounds) at birth.
  • Your baby must have severe or moderate acidosis (high acid levels in the blood) within the first hour after birth.
  • Your baby must show signs of moderate to severe brain injury (like low muscle tone, poor reflexes, or seizures) in the first 6 hours.
  • Your baby cannot have already received cooling therapy, caffeine, or been part of another trial that would interfere.
