Who can take part

  • You have a confirmed cancer of the oropharynx, larynx, or hypopharynx (throat area) that has not spread to distant organs.
  • Your cancer is stage III or IV (IVA or IVB), based on recent scans and a head-and-neck exam.
  • You have not had prior chemotherapy, targeted medicines, or radiation for head and neck cancer.
  • A tumor biopsy sample is available for ERCC1 testing, and you can consent to mandatory extra tissue testing.
  • You must be well enough for treatment (generally age 18+, and certain blood, kidney, liver, and mineral levels must be adequate).
  • If you are able to become pregnant, you must use reliable birth control and not be pregnant; this also applies to men.
